Hormone Balance

In Western medicine, hormonal imbalance refers to the dysregulation of the body's chemical messengers, affecting a wide array of physiological functions (Stachenfeld, 2008, Journal of Applied Physiology). These imbalances can occur due to excessive or insufficient levels of specific hormones, contributing to more severe conditions over time. The human endocrine system is comprised of approximately 50 hormones that regulate metabolism, growth, sexual function, and mood, among other vital processes (Hadley, 2000, Endocrinology). Even minor hormonal fluctuations can have profound systemic impacts. Conversely, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) conceptualizes hormonal imbalance as a disturbance in the equilibrium between Yin and Yang energies (Lu, 1995, Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine). TCM scrutinizes various endocrine organs, such as the adrenal glands, pituitary, pancreas, and thyroid, aiming to identify patterns of disharmony and restore homeostasis by balancing Yin and Yang (Chen et al., 2014, Journal of Ethnopharmacology). Both Western and TCM perspectives offer unique diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to hormonal imbalances.
