CRPS
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) is delineated in Western medicine as a chronic pain condition with severity often exceeding the initial causative event, commonly manifesting post-injury or surgical procedures (Marinus et al., 2011, Pain). In contrast, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) conceptualizes CRPS as an obstructive Bi syndrome characterized by impeded Qi and blood circulation. TCM further categorizes the condition based on underlying stagnation and imbalances in Yin or Yang energies (Lee et al., 2013, The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine). These divergent diagnostic and therapeutic paradigms highlight the imperative for interdisciplinary research to facilitate a more comprehensive understanding and treatment of CRPS.
