Silicon dioxide exists naturally within the earth and our bodies.7

Acerola Cherry PowderSilicon Dioxide is one of the earth's most abundant minerals derived from Silicon (Si) and Oxygen (O2) to form SiO2. It is widely used as one of the most common anti-caking fillers, most often used to prevent the clumping of natural, raw materials.

We use the smallest necessary amount (by weight) of the anti-caking silicon dioxide so that it is very easy for you to dip a spoon into your Z Natural Foods’ stand-up, resealable bag and effortlessly scoop a tablespoon or two for your smoothies, yogurts or to sprinkle on foods.

Silicon Dioxide is a trace mineral necessary for healthy bones, skin, hair, and nails -- found naturally in many plant foods

In the human body, silicon is a trace mineral found in blood vessels, cartilage, tendons, bone, collagen, and skin. Recent research has also found that Silicon is helpful in keeping blood vessel walls healthy, with the aorta being exceptionally rich in silicon.8

In fact, the benefits of Silicon go beyond what most people think. That’s because Silicon, in union with Nitric Oxide (NO), plays an essential role in the health of our arteries to keep the fibers in the blood vessel wall elastic.8 This elasticity helps to make the artery wall impermeable to the fatty infiltration and calcium deposition associated with plaque formation. Ongoing research on silicon makes it an important nutrient in the scope of our developing understanding of cardiovascular nutrition.8

Recent research shows that tissue levels of silicone decrease with aging and a deficiency is characterized by dry, brittle hair, brittle nails, poor skin quality, poor calcium utilization and even arterial disease.9 Additionally, silicon supplementation increases the collagen in growing bone by 100%.9 The recommended intake ranges from 200 to 500 mg/day for adults.

When necessary, Z Natural Foods uses minimal amounts of silicon dioxide while never exceeding 2% of the weight of the food (often using just a fraction of this amount).

In fact, the United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA)4 and the World Health Organization (WHO)5 both have silicone dioxide acceptable use guidelines.
