Cellulitis, as defined within Western medicine, represents the inflammation of subcutaneous connective tissue and is a prevalent bacterial skin infection that frequently arises from injuries such as trauma and surgical interventions (Stevens et al., 2005, The New England Journal of Medicine). In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Cellulitis's etiology may be attributed to a pattern of disharmony termed "Toxic-heat." Specifically, the manifestation known as "Toxic-heat stagnation" pertains to channels or surface regions like the skin, leading to symptomatic presentations encompassing pain, redness, and swelling (Li et al., 2019, Chinese Medicine). This pattern's toxic-heat association correlates with manifestations such as boils, swelling, and erythema (Liao et al., 2018, Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine). TCM posits various sources for toxic-heat development, including pernicious external influences (such as wind, heat, dampness, dryness, fire, and cold), infectious diseases (where external bacteria are deemed "toxins" in TCM), and an immoderate intake of hot and spicy foods (Luo et al., 2018, Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine). By recognizing the multifaceted contributors to Cellulitis through the lens of TCM, a comprehensive understanding of the condition emerges.
