In Western medicine, Rosacea is a chronic cutaneous inflammatory disorder characterized by facial erythema, papules, and potential ocular complications. The condition is taxonomically divided into three subtypes: Vascular, Inflammatory, and Phymatous, each with distinct clinical manifestations. Although not definitively established, the etiology is often attributed to aberrant vascular function, as corroborated by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and FDA guidelines. In contrast, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) posits that rosacea is a manifestation of heat-based Qi stagnation, particularly implicating the lung organ system, which governs skin health, as the underlying cause of facial inflammation. These diagnostic frameworks are further substantiated by USDA research and peer-reviewed scientific journals, thereby underscoring the need for an integrative approach in diagnosing and managing rosacea (WHO, Harvard Medical School Clinical Research Programs).
