Nutritional Yeast Flakes
Nutritional yeast flakes, also known as “nooch,” have been used as a food seasoning since the early 1900s.
Initially developed as a nourishing food for those who couldn’t afford or access animal-based foods, it quickly became popular in vegetarian and vegan recipes for its cheesy, nutty flavor.
It is made from a strain of Saccharomyces Cerevisiae, a single-celled organism, which is grown on molasses and then harvested, washed, and dried into flakes.
Nutritional Yeast is an excellent protein, vitamin, mineral, and dietary fiber source. It is also a source of B vitamins, including thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12.
